Inn At Laguna Beach Unveils

Laguna Beach, CA (PRWEB) May 17, 2012

On June 1, 2012, just in time for the summer season, Inn at Laguna Beach will unveil a multi-million dollar, environmentally-sensitive, comprehensive renovation. Located in the heart of Laguna Beach in a perfect seaside location adjacent to Main Beach, the beloved Inn has been renovated and re-designed for guests who want a taste of the real Laguna Beach. The Inn at Laguna Beach brings together all of the features that have made Laguna the iconic center of California cool for decades ? art, surfing, fresh cuisine, sand, sun and a relaxed outdoor lifestyle.

?The renovation of Inn at Laguna Beach was a great opportunity for us to make a classic beach Inn an even better version of itself, but also for it to stay true to what it is ? a fun, fresh place to enjoy the beach spirit of Laguna,? said Matt Crow, CEO of Classic Hotels & Resorts. ?There are plenty of sequestered, ultra-luxury resorts in the area, and several value-driven lodging options, but none with the combination of location and luxury that we are now able to offer. We want to delight the guest who wants to be in the center of town, on the beach with an upscale experience for a vacation getaway, a business retreat, or a seaside wedding.?

Every area of the Inn has been redesigned and updated. Guests will notice design and dcor improvements immediately upon arrival to the property, with a new entry experience accented by redesigned landscaping and resurfacing of the main driveway. The lobby, with its expansive views to the Pacific Ocean, received a complete redesign, accented by coastal chic dcor in a comfortable and homey setting, encouraging visitors to relax and enjoy the unique overlook. While the natural setting of the Inn along side Heisler Park and Main Beach is the main attraction, guests will notice significant improvements in their rooms, which have been completely redesigned. Each guest room received new bamboo wood case goods, rattan style bed frames with crisp 250-thread-count sheets, and locally inspired beach and surf photography. Guest room bathrooms received new bamboo wood vanities, frameless glass shower screens and new tile, sourced from a supplier that utilized 30% recycled stone; a design decision which supports Classic?s commitment to more sustainable and environmentally sensitive building practices.

Public areas have also been updated, including the pool deck and the rooftop Pacific Terrace, both overlooking the beach. The Pacific Terrace, with all new surfacing, wood framed banquettes and rattan style furniture, serves as the perfect venue for a wedding, and in fact is the only oceanfront wedding location in North Laguna. To make sure all weddings and events are handled seamlessly, there is an on-site wedding specialist. The Pacific and Laguna rooms, two venues ideal for meetings and intimate weddings have also been redone with the same relaxed beach style as the rest of the Inn.

Guests enjoy freshly prepared California cuisine at breakfast on the Pacific Terrace, as well as in-room dining, also new to the Inn, and evidence of management?s commitment to guest service. Libations and light fare are available from the Poolside Bar. The Inn also has the ability to prepare customized menus for each group, meeting, wedding or event hosted on property. Guests enjoy complimentary coffee each morning in the lobby, and a nightly wine hour where guests are invited to linger and mingle. There are more than 40 fine restaurant and dining options within walking distance from the Inn, and the hotel is next door to one of Orange County?s most popular Mexican restaurants, Las Brisas.

Classic Hotel?s commitment to the environment was considered at each available opportunity during the renovation. The redevelopment team included an in house Sustainability Manager, which allowed the development team to integrate sustainable building techniques and responsible sourced materials throughout. Key environmental elements of the redevelopment included:

Dual Flush Toilets
Low Flow Faucets & Showers
Low VOC Paint
Renewable Bamboo Furniture
Tile Sourced from 30% Recycled Material
Carpet Padding Made of Recycled Material
High Efficiency Appliances ? Refrigerators, Fans & Hair Dryers

Wooden Boat Restoration Requires Proper

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) May 14, 2012

At the Antique and Classic Boat Society?s Restoration Symposium/Workshop recently held in Cincinnati, OH, Antique Boat Center President, Dennis Ryan, presented several factors that determine success when restoring a classic boat. Along with Service Manager and event instructor Joel Terbrueggen, Ryan shared the following restoration principles and techniques with attendees of workshop.

The most important first step in wooden boat restoration is finding a place to house the project. A garage, barn, tented structure ? any enclosed area to protect the boat and equipment from weather is the workshop you need. Allow enough space to move around the boat with long pieces of wood. Next, you must secure access to the proper equipment: Power tools, jigsaw, circular saw, planer, drill press, and band saw will enable you to complete most woodworking needed. A cordless drill or two will make the job of fastener removal and replacement easier. A digital camera may be the most significant tool you need, since documenting the disassembly will help with reassembly some months later. Taking as many as 300 pictures will pay off time and time again when reassembling hundreds of parts.

Upholstery, engine and finish restoration also require specific tools. Upholstery work requires sewing equipment, layout tables, a power stapler, and sharp cutting equipment. Original type fabrics include cloth and burlap as well as leather and vinyl.

Engine rebuilding requires sophisticated machining; an engine shop can help. Engine assembly requires a mechanics set of wrenches and sockets, torque wrench and some specialty equipment. A wire wheel proves valuable in cleaning older parts.

Applying finishes requires quality brushes, foam rollers, wet or dry sandpaper and a low dust, temperature controlled atmosphere. Most surfaces will require a minimum of three coats and quality varnish work has at least ten coats. Using marine specific finishing products will always give the best durability for the harsh marine environment. Using the tools and equipment correctly as well as managing dust and solvent fumes is extremely important to your safety and the safety of those working with you. Protect your lungs from dust created with sanding, your eyes from flying shavings or liquids splashing, and your skin from solvents that can be absorbed. Dust masks, cartridge filter masks, safety glasses, and rubber gloves are a must for any restoration project.

Safety is a part of the wooden boat restoration process; practice safe work procedures and enjoy a long life of rewarding fun and friendship by preserving the antique boat heritage.

Perennial Wood Named Honorable Mention

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 19, 2012

Perennial Wood?, real wood modified to endure nature?s harshest elements, was named Honorable Mention for the MEDIUM Award for Material of the Year from Material ConneXion. The award recognizes materials that demonstrate outstanding technological innovation and the potential to make a significant contribution to the advancement of design, industry, society and the economy. The announcement was made today at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York.

?We are honored to be selected among the best new materials by Material ConneXion, experts in material science and specifications,? said Deborah Baum Crain, director of Perennial Wood. ?Now more than ever, manufacturers are looking to incorporate longer-lasting, high-quality and sustainable materials into their products. For outdoor applications, whether furniture, windows, doors, siding, or trim, Perennial Wood offers manufacturers a practical alternative to composite, plastic and tropical hardwood materials.?

Perennial Wood is modified through TruLast? Technology, which provides a physical barrier throughout the wood that protects against rot, decay and movement. Perennial Wood is three times more resistant to shrinking and swelling than unmodified wood, resulting in less warping, bowing, and cupping, without sacrificing the beauty and workability of real wood.

Material ConneXion will exhibit Perennial Wood, as well as the award winner and other honorable mention award recipients, at its New York headquarters at 60 Madison Ave., in June 2012. The exhibition will raise awareness of the capabilities of Perennial Wood to an international audience of material specifiers and influencers.

How To Make A Shoe

How to Make a Shoe Shelf

First, measure the space where you want to install the shoe shelf. Take this measurement and subtract 1″ from it. This will be the length of your shelf that the shoes sit on. The inch is deducted for the sides.
Now take a 4×4 sheet of 1/2″ plywood and cut the shelf plank using the measurement you just took. You are going to want to tilt your saw to 45 degrees to put a bevel on the back. If you want a longer shelf, use a longer piece of plywood. The shelf should be at least 12 inches wide and no more than 18 inches. THE BEVEL SHOULD GO ALONG THE BACK OF THE SHELF ONLY. Cut the side with the blade back at 0 degrees.

Step 2

Now Cut 2 pieces for the sides of the shelf. To find the measurements for the side pieces, use your carpenter’s square against a wall. Put the shelf piece against the wall as it would sit after installed. Measure the distance on the floor from the wall to the front of the shelf and the distance from the floor to the top of the shelf against the wall. Add 2″ to the floor measurement and 1″ to wall measurement.

Step 3

Once the side pieces are cut, hold the shelf against the wall as you did to get your measurements for the side pieces and put the sides up to the shelf. Now trace along the shelf to orientate the shelf to the sides. Put a bead of wood glue along one side of the shelf and line up the shelf piece on your line. Tack is in place with your brad nail gun. Repeat for the other side.
On the underside of the shelf, drill angled holes and insert at least 3 screws to completely secure the side pieces to the shelf. Wipe off any excess wood glue with a damp rag.

Step 4

Now measure the distance between the sides. The measurement should be the same as the shelf, but it is good to measure this just the same. Cut a 1×2 inch piece of hardwood this length. Measure down in several areas 1″ and make a mark. You will need at least 4 marks along this board. Lay a bead of wood glue along the front of the shelf. Using the marks on the 1×2 you just cut, line up the marks so that 1″ of the board is above the surface of the shelf. Nail the board into place as the marks are lined up. Wipe off any excess glue.

Step 5

Measure the top of the shelf sides and cut 1×2 pieces. Glue and nail them into place. Measure the front of the shelf sides with the top pieces attached and cut 1×2 pieces. Glue and nail them into place.

Step 6

Turn the shelf so the back faces you. Measure down from the inside corner of the shelf to the bottom of the side. This will be your long measurement for your shelf brackets. Cut the tops at 45 degrees and the bottoms flat. Glue and nail the pieces into place. Pre-drill pilot holes for the shelf through the brackets.

Step 7

Use wood filler to fill any nail holes. Sand with light grit sandpaper. Clean and paint of stain your shelf.

Congratulations! you now have a shelf to put all of these shoes. If you choose to build multiple shelves, you can keep on on the ground and still have room for shoes underneath the shelf.
